2023 has arrived, and there are numerous returning original programs and many new titles you will love in the new year. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a sucker for heartfelt comedies, an avid follower of adrenaline-pumping action series, or a fan of mind-bending science fiction. Here is all the Netflix shows that are confirmed to debut that year, from Cobra Kai to the highly anticipated release of Too Hot to Handle season 5.
New seasons, however, bring exciting new storylines, the continuation of established storylines, the introduction of new characters, and a chance to reconnect with familiar faces and settings.
10. Cobra Kai
Director: | Josh Heald |
Genre: | Comedy |
Cast: | Ralph Macchio, William Zabka |
Cobra Kai has been picked up for a sixth season, to everyone’s delight. There’s bad news, though: this will be the final one. Thankfully, the Karate Kid spin-off series will conclude on its terms. That will be all when Season 6 of “Cobra Kai” airs. The fandom may be experiencing mixed emotions today, but the Miyagi Verse is stronger than ever.
9. Mo
Director: | Mohammed “Mo” Amer |
Genre: | Comedy |
Cast: | Mohammed Amer, Teresa Ruiz |
It was announced in January 2023 that the second and final season of the comedy series created by Mohamed “Mo” Amer and Ramy Youssef would be filmed. There has been no announcement regarding the airdate for the final Mo episode. Mo, an original production from Netflix, has received rave reviews and several awards and is set for renewal.
8. Too Hot to Handle season 5
Director: | – |
Genre: | Reality |
Cast: | Laura Gibson; Charlie Bennett |
Another season of the American–British reality show is on the way and promises to be sizzling. We now have Netflix’s first original television program with this reality show. Lana, a digital hostess, hosts the show. The creators just dropped Season 5, and already, binge-watchers are looking forward to the next installment. There are also Brazilian, German, and Mexican adaptations of the show.
7. The Crown
Director: | Peter Morgan |
Genre: | Drama |
Cast: | Claire Foy, Matt Smith |
The Crown, a “fictional dramatization” about the British Royal Family, will finish in 2023, despite the hopes of casual fans who want the show to catch up to current events, such as those surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The sixth season, airing later this year, will pick up in 1997, just in time to cover the sad events surrounding Princess Diana’s death.
6. Never Have I Ever
Director: | Lang Fisher, Mindy Kaling |
Genre: | Comedy drama; Coming of age |
Cast: | Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, Darren Barnet |
Unfortunately, our favorite teen shows on Netflix have all ended. Since April 2022, it has been known that season 4th of Never Have I Ever will be the last time we see Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Devi on the show. When a 34-year-old actor plays a 15-year-old, it begins to appear ludicrous. Never Have I Ever season 4 will likely premiere in 2023, while a specific date has yet to be set.
5. The Umbrella Academy
Director: | Steve Blackman |
Genre: | Action, Adventure |
Cast: | Elliot Page, Tom Hopper |
The Umbrella Academy has also reached its final season, which will be significantly shorter than the previous three. Supernatural’s last season will only have six episodes instead of the customary ten, as confirmed by showrunner Steve Blackman. Production on the final season of The Umbrella Academy is almost complete so viewers may anticipate the series finale around late 2023 or early 2024.
4. Young Royals
Director: | Lisa Ambjörn; Lars Beckung; Camilla Holter |
Genre: | Drama |
Cast: | Edvin Ryding, Omar Rudberg |
While Young Royals hasn’t been officially announced that the third and last season of the Swedish adolescent drama will be released in 2023, fans are expected to say their goodbyes to Simon and Wilhelm this year. Season 3 will likely premiere in 2023, though the last seasons were released in 2021 and 2022)
3. Firefly Lane
Director: | Maggie Friedman |
Genre: | Drama |
Cast: | Katherine Heigl, Sarah Chalke |
Confirmation of Firefly Lane‘s cancellation after only two seasons came in October 2022, with Katherine Heigl and Sarah Chalke starring. Therefore, the second season would be split into two extra-long halves. Moreover, eight of the last season’s sixteen episodes premiered in December 2022, while the remaining eight will hit the screen on June 8th, 2023.
2. Manifest
Director: | Jeff Rake |
Genre: | Drama; Supernatural |
Cast: | Melissa Roxburgh, Josh Dallas |
Part 2 of Manifest‘s last season premiered on Netflix this year after the show was revived for a sixth and final season after being canceled by NBC. Moreover, the first 10 episodes of the mystery thriller premiered in November of 2022, and the remaining 10 episodes will run in 2023, though an exact date has yet to be set.
1. Riverdale
Director: | Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa |
Genre: | Drama |
Cast: | Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse |
It has been confirmed that the last season of Riverdale will premiere in 2023. Although Netflix does not produce Riverdale, the streaming service does play a role in the show’s promotion and distribution to overseas viewers once it has been broadcast on The CW in the United States. In Spring 2023 (or midseason), it will debut on The CW, and subsequent episodes will be released weekly on Netflix for worldwide viewers. We have yet to determine how many episodes Season 7 will include, but we know the series finale will air sometime in 2023.
